Bolton Veterinary Hospital

OUR  DOCTORS

Dr. Erin Anderson, D.V.M.
Dr. Anderson obtained her D.V.M. degree from The Ohio State University Veterinary School in the spring of 2002 and joined us shortly thereafter. She completed her undergraduate studies at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 1999.  "Dr. A." has five cats, all domestic shorthairs: Alphie, Haley, Bonnie, Clyde, and Bear. She enjoys kayaking and other outdoor activities.

Dr. Paul Badeau, D.V.M.
Dr. Badeau started volunteering for our clinic when he was only 14 years old.  He began working as a technician in April 1997 and continued working here as he attended the University of Connecticut.  In 2003 he received his undergraduate degree in Pathobiology from UCONN and left us to obtain his D.V.M from the University of Minnesota (2007).  Fortunately, he returned shortly after graduating to re-join our staff as a veterinarian. Dr. Badeau chose to return to our clinic because of our "family-like" atmosphere and because we offer one of the highest case-loads in the area.  He enjoys the diversity that our emergency clinic offers and appreciates the collaborative effort that this 18 doctor practice provides. His special interests lie in dentistry and alternative medicine.  At home, Dr. Badeau has 2 cats, Mojo and Achilles, and a seven-year-old German Shepherd named Zooma.  When he's not working, Dr. Badeau enjoys fly-fishing, camping, hiking, metalsmithing, and attending New York Yankee baseball games.

Dr. Erin Brennan, D.V.M.
Dr. Brennan came to us in 2008.  She received her bachelor's degree from UCONN in Animal Science with a major in chemistry, and then went on to graduate from the University of Illinois with her doctorate in veterinary medicine.  She says it is hard to come up with just one reason as to why she chose BVH; the availability of 24 hour nursing care, the incredible staff, and the diverse case load are among the things she likes the best.  Her areas of special interest include soft tissue surgery, dermatology, and dentistry.  She also finds the emergency clinic to be stimulating, challenging, and rewarding, all at the same time.  Dr Brennan shares her home with Emery, her rescued pit bull terrier, and her outside interests include horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, and reading.

Dr. David Coley, D.V.M.
Dr. Coley started his BVH career in June 1973 after graduating from The New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell.  He had completed his undergraduate course work at Cornell's New York State College of Agriculture.  He chose to come to BVH because of our reputation as a progressive practice, with the added benefits of multiple doctors and a clientele that includes dairy farmers. Dr. Coley enjoys working with farm animals, though, sadly, there are fewer farms today than there were in the 1970s. His area of small animal expertise is dentistry and he regularly participates in dental short courses, as well as other continuing education seminars. The Coleys have three dogs; a Golden Retriever named Indy; a Chihuahua cross, Cody; and a German shepherd, Daphne. Their cats are Jasper, Max, Brownie, and Minerva. They also have a chinchilla named Rosie; four birds, Louie, Piglet, Emmy, and Ariel; four snakes, Popsicle, Rosie, Dan, and Little Ann; and thirteen tarantulas!

Dr. Sonja Gotler, D.V.M.
Dr. Gotler obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in 1995 and her Doctorate from Purdue University in 1999. After graduation, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Cornell University and acted as an instructor in clinical pathology at Cornell.  Dr. Gotler joined our professional staff in January of 2002, finding the working atmosphere, skilled staff, and the availability of 24-hour care appealing.  Dr. Gotler's special interests are clinical pathology, surgery, and ultrasonography.  In her free time, she volunteers at
Horse of Connecticut. She has two cats, Lenore and Lilly; a German shepherd/Aussie mix named Skippy, and a Golden Retriever named Elsa.  She is an avid reader and enjoys writing and hiking.

Dr. Edward K. Grace, D.V.M.
It might be said that Dr. Grace "grew up" at BVH, starting first as a youthful volunteer, then as a veterinary technician, and finally as an emergency clinic veterinarian.  He completed his pre-veterinary studies at the University of Connecticut in 1983 and his Doctorate at Purdue University in 1988.  He rejoined the BVH veterinary staff in 1994 due to, as he says, "the challenge of seeing large numbers of difficult cases in a practice that remains down-to-earth".  Dr. Grace has been a member of the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board since 1995.  His other extracurricular activities include running, cross-country skiing, and coaching Cross-Country at Coventry High School.

Dr. Kim Griswold, D.V.M.
Dr. Griswold joined us as a technician in 1996 while attending Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine.  She graduated in May 1999 and continued with us as a veterinarian.  Dr. Griswold chose to stay with us because she appreciated the dedicated staff of quality doctors and skilled technicians, our on-site laboratory services, and the availability of 24-hour care.  Her special interest is in treating dogs and cats.  She currently has two 3-legged cats, Austin and Trudy.  Dr. Griswold enjoys birding, reading, and watching movies.

Dr. Shonna Kalos, D.V.M.
Dr. Kalos previously worked at BVH as a veterinary technician from December 1998 until April 2003.   She graduated from UCONN in 1999 with a B.S. in Animal Science.  In 2003 she began attending Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine located on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean.  She graduated with her D.V.M. in 2006 and went on to do a small animal internship focusing on emergency medicine at North Carolina State University.  Fortunately, Dr. Kalos returned to our practice in July 2007.  She missed our family here and knew that returning would provide her with the opportunity to learn from our seventeen other veterinarians.  She also wanted the opportunity to practice emergency medicine in addition to performing surgery and wellness examinations.  Dr. Kalos currently has two cats, Oscar and Maya, whom she adopted while in vet school.

Dr. Ashleigh Kopec, D.V.M.
Dr. Kopec came to BVH in May 2005 after receiving a B.S. from Rutgers University and a D.V.M. from Tufts.  Dr. Kopec chose Bolton Veterinary Hospital because of the "quality of medicine practiced in a large family-like environment" and also because of the great clients.  Her special interests include treating exotic pets and emergency medicine.  Dr. Kopec has one ferret named Caesar, two cats called Parker and Leo, and a lab mix named Dakota.  Outside of work, Dr. Kopec enjoys hiking, camping, running, and skiing.

Dr. Connie Lee, D.V.M.
Dr. Lee graduated from Cornell University and joined our staff in 2005. Her special interests in the veterinary field are general practice and medicine.  Dr. Lee chose Bolton Vet for its location and wonderful doctors.  She enjoys the diverse cases and appreciates the staff for their support, level of knowledge, and experiences shared. "I tend to smile and laugh a lot here," she says. Her outside interests include wine and food tasting, reading, skiing, traveling, playing the piano, and playing Nintendo.  She's a champion at Super Mario Kart!  She also enjoys spending time with her husband and her dog, Marion (a retired laboratory research dog from Cornell).

Dr. Kenneth Malm, D.V.M.
Dr. Malm came to us in 1983 after earning his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. He cites the high quality of medicine and surgery, as well as the large variety of animal species seen at BVH, as his reasons for choosing us. Dr. Malm is one of our "farm doctors," administering care to the large animals in the community. His special interests include pocket pets (i.e., rabbits and rodents), feline medicine, and internal medicine. Dr. Malm is especially skilled in soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Malm has two dogs: Nemo, a Shetland sheepdog, and a Doberman, Greta. He enjoys hiking, gourmet cooking, and traveling.

Dr. Cassandra Oswald, D.V.M., Certified Animal Acupuncturist
Dr. Oswald completed her undergraduate course work with dual degrees at UConn in 1991. She earned her D.V.M. degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and joined us shortly thereafter.  Most recently, Dr. Oswald received special training to become a certified in Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians and now offers acupuncture services to our patients.  She had performed her externship at BVH and had enjoyed the large practice setting and the proximity of her family and friends. Dr. Oswald is an exceptionally talented quilter, and enjoys reading, painting, and hiking. She currently has three cats and several fish.

In addition, the hospital is able to receive emergencies 24 hours a day. His special interests in the veterinary field include emergency medicine, critical care, and wildlife/zoo medicine. Dr Pikas enjoys ice hockey, in-line hockey, biking, camping and backpacking. He has two dogs, Paris and Remi, and a cat named Bam.

Dr. William Pomper, D.V.M.
A 1968 graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Pomper has been a member of our professional staff for 34 years. He chose BVH due to our mixed practice, as he enjoys small animals and farm animals alike. Every year, Dr. Pomper spends part of his vacation time as a volunteer for Remote Area Veterinary Services, administering to animals that would not otherwise have access to veterinary care. Dr. Pomper enjoys recreational hockey as a member of Team Buzzard, as well as backpacking and sea kayaking. He also enjoys folk music and regularly serenades our staff. He has two cats, Bobby and Leia, and one dog named Farley.
